1979 Wolfert van Borselenpenning
The city of Rotterdam created the Wolfert van Borselen Medal of Honour in 1967 in memory of the noble Wolfert van Borselen who bestowed city rights to Rotterdam in 1299. The municipality awards the medal to personalities that have played a prominent role in different sectors of Rotterdam society.

De Wolfert van Borselenpenning werd in 1967 ingesteld ter herinnering aan de Zeeuwse edelman Wolfert van Borselen die Rotterdam in 1299 stadsrechten verleende. De gemeente Rotterdam reikt de penning uit aan personen die een prominente rol hebben gespeeld op verschillende terreinen van de Rotterdamse samenleving.

1980 Paul Nijgh Penning
The private Paul Nijgh Foundation in 1956 created a biannual award and medal for personalities in Rotterdam that have contributed greatly to the social or cultural life of Rotterdam.
De Paul Nijgh Penning is een in 1956 door de Paul Nijgh Stichting ingestelde tweejaarlijkse beloningspenning voor Rotterdammers die zich op sociaal of cultureel terrein bijzonder verdienstelijk hebben gemaakt.

1989 Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw
The order of the Dutch Lion is the eldest and highest civil knighthood in the Netherlands. King William I initiated the order on the 29th of September 1815. Someone will be admitted to an honour in this order if he or she has given an extraordinary contribution to society.

De Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw is de oudste en hoogste civiele ridderorde in Nederland. Koning Willem I heeft de Orde ingesteld op 29 september 1815. Iemand komt in aanmerking voor een onderscheiding in deze orde als hij of zij een prestatie van zeer exceptionele aard heeft geleverd voor de samenleving.

2002 Dr. J. P. van Praag Award
The Dr. J. P. van Praag Award is a biannual tribute to a person or organization that has served the realization of a humanistic world view or the humanization of society. The Board of the Dutch Ethical Society motivates the dedication as follows: “Adriaan van der Staay has, for many years, devoted himself by his words, writing and action, to encouraging a cosmopolitan approach to the diversity of cultural, and particularly artistic, traditions and to the quest for human values with transcendent local custom. He has consistently shown himself to be an independent thinker, basing his ideas on humanistic values, in taking a constructive stand on social issues to improving a cosmopolitan view on important human questions and hence to the humanization of society.”
The Prize was instituted by the Humanist Association in 1969 and was donated by the founder and president of the Association, Jaap van Praag (1911-1981)

De Dr. J. P. van Praag Award is een tweejaarlijkse prijs voor een persoon of organisatie die verdienstelijk is geweest op het terrein van de verwerkelijking van de humanistische levensovertuiging of van de humanisering van de samenleving. De ‘Board of the Dutch Ethical Society’ motiveert de toekenning van de prijs aan Van der Staay als volgt: “Adriaan van der Staay has, for many years, devoted himself by his words, writing and action, to encouraging a cosmopolitan approach to the diversity of cultural, and particularly artistic, traditions and to the quest for human values with transcendent local custom. De prijs werd in 1969 ingesteld door het Humanistisch Verbond en werd toen aangeboden aan de vertrekkende voorzitter en een van de oprichters van het Verbond, Jaap van Praag (1911-1981).

2004 Eremedaille voor Kunst en Wetenschap van de Huisorde van Oranje
The Order of the House of Orange is a high Medal of Honour for Arts and Science.
The Medal of Honour is bestowed on people that have made themselves uncommonly useful to science and the arts. Moreover the decoration implies a special relationship with the Royal House.

De Eremedaille voor Kunst en Wetenschap is een hoge onderscheiding in de Huisorde van Oranje. De Eremedaille wordt toegekend aan mensen die zich bijzonder verdienstelijk hebben gemaakt in de kunst of de wetenschap. Daarnaast heeft de gedecoreerde een bijzondere band met het Koninklijk Huis.
